Artist's Statement

Influenced by the painters of the Abstract Expressionism movement of New York in the 1940’s and 1950’s such as Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, Lee Krasner and Arshile Gorky, I explore the ancient craft of painting and paint what cannot be photographed, comes from the imagination or from the unconscious through non-representational forms.

My painting does not come from the traditional easel and brushes. The canvas is placed on the floor making it accessible to walk around it from different angles; be in the painting itself and grasp after every movement the arm and body has made.

Brushes are replaced by sticks, basting syringes or hardened brushes as paint applicators to drip and pour the fluid enamel paint. Choosing enamel paint gives me the dynamic of color in a bold and vivid glossy finish among its embossed multi-layered effect.

As I continue to discover and learn from the great artists, as a painter I will always be a student.
